RIMS a registered UCAS Centre now onwards

IGCSE / ‘A’ Level

Dear Students and Parents,

At RIMS, Achievement act as motivation to raise standards. The new addition to the gamut of Achievements is the UCAS (University and Colleges Admission System. U.K.), who has added RIMS International School and Junior College as its centre, an honour only few reputed International Schools share all over the world.

The benefits of being an UCAS centre are as follows:

  • Admission to Universities in the U.K. higher Education Program are done online through www.ucas.com and we are obliged to receive trainings from UCAS and thus train students in return accordingly.
  • UCAS have introduced Adviser Track for Institutions to Apply, which allows RIMS to track the progress of the applicants after their applications have been processed by UCAS. Hence monthly updates of the application progress can be provided on our website too.
  • Counseling and Guidance for further Education can be obtained from our In house Counselors or Official body appointed for the same. This service is usually chargeable and is quite exorbitant when the case is dealt with a private Career Counselor. RIMS has an obligation from UCAS to provide this service absolutely free of cost.
  • When planning to join U.K for undergraduate study, the application process will just be simple now. One point contact, no running around for transcripts, recommendation and documents, which on application to RIMS office will be automatically processed.

So come let’s be a part of this Achievement and take advantage of the process for hassle free University Admission procedures. For more information contact Ms. Sheetal Multani – Admission Counselor.

Thank you,

RIMS International School and Junior CollegeTM, Juhu has been the pioneer in the field of international education and was the first institution in Mumbai to offer the University of Cambridge International Examinations affiliated IGCSE and ‘A’ level programmes. Adding another pioneering effort to its credit, RIMS International School and Junior College is inaugurating the ‘RIMS Virtual Classroom’ on its third Annual Day programme on February 1, 2007 at the IES Auditorium, Bandra. The programme starts at 6:00 p.m. and ends at 10:00 pm. This chat based learning initiative will be the first of its kind interactive learning site, which will harness the tremendous potential of web-based technology to provide innovative teaching-learning situations. It will be inaugurated by Dr. Rupa Shah, ex-Vice Chancellor, SNDT University; Mrs. Rama Dhoot, Videocon Industries; and renowned film personalities, Pankaj Kapur and Shahid Kapur, The ‘RIMS Virtual Classroom’ will have the following advantages of synchronous online discussions:

  • Virtual teaching hours can be scheduled so that teachers and students can meet in the chat rooms at pre-appointed times.
  • Creating self made study hours at home encouraging students to be independent, responsible and accountable.
  • This will reduce parent-child conflict over study habits which research has shown is the biggest source of parent-child interaction blues.
  • Research has shown that teenagers spend a lot of time on the Internet and chatting. This teaching-learning solution will use the favourite technology of youth to every body’s advantage.
  • Teachers can be accessed from any part of the world.
  • Teaching will be possible during holidays, vacations, illness of students and times of natural calamities.
  • Special time table during exams for exam preparations.
  • Creating transparency in learning and providing instant teaching-learning solutions.
  • These discussion groups are very good for brainstorming sessions, small group work and one to one interaction and feedback between the teacher and student.
  • Guest speakers or experts can be invited to a chat session.
  • It works on the principle of providing ‘edutainment’ – combining education and entertainment as it uses a technology which is popular among the youth today.
  • ‘Expect the unexpected’ from RIMS International School and Junior CollegeTM in terms of  academic innovations. It’s a promise.

RIMS student JASMEET GULATI – Highest Achiever in India

At the CIE IGCSE Examination, 2006-07

Jasmeet Gulati has achieved the highest score at the IGCSE Accounting Examination. The highest score is determined by ranking the number of standard marks achieved by candidates. The candidate with the highest standard mark will be ranked first. If two or more candidates have the same standard mark they will get an equal score, and will share a joint position (therefore it is possible for two candidates to be awarded a joint ‘Top of the world’ etc). Because standard marks are used to determine the ranking, gaining an A* does not necessarily mean that a candidate will automatically have the highest score, as A* is a grade, not a score.

Dr. Kishor Pillai, Principal of RIMS International School and Junior College wins

Indira Gandhi Priyadarshini Award”

Dr Kishor Pillai, Principal of RIMS International School and Junior College is a dedicated, resourceful education professional with proven ability to create and monitor policies and practices that promote a safe learning environment; ensure a school culture that encourages continuous improvement for teachers and students and promote parental and community involvement.

“With a career spanning over 10 years in multiple roles from Teacher to Examiner and finally a Principal, I believe that there is no profession as noble as teaching. I view it as ‘an opportunity to touch the lives of future generations’.”

For those parents who have been with RIMS for the past 4 years will be able to testify the marked changes that have come about for the betterment of the institute and the students. A glance at the school’s infrastructure three years back and as it ‘now’ appears is only a part of the visible changes that he has envisioned and fulfilled.

To his teachers he is the one to look up to. He embodies qualities that a good teacher aspires for; diligence to work, discipline of thoughts and action; onus on the part of the student and self; never looking back at the failure except to use it as a stepping stone to something better.

This is the person who has ably handled the position given him with dexterity and undertakes a new project for the school every year. It is an absolute privilege to work for him and with him.

He has won the prestigious ‘Indira Gandhi Priyadarshini Award’ in the year 2007 from Shri. M.V. Rajshekharan, Union Minister of State for Planning, joining illustrious past awardees like Mother Theresa. He has brought pride to himself, his family and all of us at RIMS. This is just the beginning. He still has a long way to go.  We wish him and RIMS many more greater milestones.  Watch this space for more. The rest as they say will be history.
